The Autumnal Rose
A whisper crossed the silent rose
that knew but only its soil
A voice touched with silver dew
A subtlety of pursed lips in thought,
and embalmed the rose and its fragrance
A gentle laugh, a warm breath,
Peerless to the rose in all its splendor
Tell me your wish, it begged... and drew away into the night.
How I wish my fragrance could carry beyond the frontiers of my soil
Tell me your dreams, it intoned, weary with hours and days
My beauty be made of purpose, a cause for togetherness
Sing for me, your beauty reaching for my lips
Alas, all my wishful petals lay fallen!!
that knew but only its soil
A voice touched with silver dew
A subtlety of pursed lips in thought,
and embalmed the rose and its fragrance
A gentle laugh, a warm breath,
Peerless to the rose in all its splendor
Tell me your wish, it begged... and drew away into the night.
How I wish my fragrance could carry beyond the frontiers of my soil
Tell me your dreams, it intoned, weary with hours and days
My beauty be made of purpose, a cause for togetherness
Sing for me, your beauty reaching for my lips
Alas, all my wishful petals lay fallen!!
